We are Zoe and Merja, two craft enthusiasts brought together by weaving. Both of us had a different career before starting this journey. Knitting, sewing and weaving were just hobbies for us.
We met during a course in a weaving studio in Finland, and we kept in touch since then. We were in a moment of our life where we both wanted to make a change. We knew that the change needed to be related with our passion for textile and fiber art. Finally after finishing our studies as Textile artisan and Clothing artisan respectively we got a great idea on how to combine our knowledge and skills in all three crafts; weaving, sewing, and knitting.
We felt that the crafts community in Helsinki was missing a space to gather for weaving and knitting. So we decided to create one together!
Follow our blog to keep up to date with the journey, and visit us to our studio in Helsinki for great crafty conversations. Welcome!
Located in Helsinki, Kutomo Craft Studio is a great place to engage with the lively crafts community in the area. Here you can book looms for a variety of inspiring weaving projects, attend courses and workshops on different craft techniques, discover beautiful yarns from up-and-coming indie dyers or just drop by for a spot of knitting and chatting in a friendly atmosphere.
We have seven countermarch floor looms, most of them from the Finnish manufacturer Toika. Others are beautiful hand made pieces. From 55 cm of weaving width up to 160 cm, you could weave hand made scarfs, traditional rag rugs, wool blankets, etc. If needed, we will be there to guide you through the process.
We organise courses about knitting, weaving, and many other crafts and techniques. Check our calendar to see what is available right now. Courses have different durations; few weeks, one weekend, or few hours. These last ones are ideal for people visiting Helsinki.
There is available a curated and limited selection of hand-dyed yarn, and a beautiful cosy corner where anyone can bring their projects to knit and spend a relaxing evening.

Textile artisan interested in weaving and knitting.
¡Hola! My name is Zoe. I am from Vitoria, a beautiful city in the north of Spain. I moved to Finland ten years ago, where I live with my husband and our two cats, Dora and Bubu.
I studied Telecommunications Engineering, and I worked as engineer for six years. Enough to realise that I wanted to do something different, something creative, and something that involved manual work and less computer!
I graduated as Textile artisan in Loimaa, a small village in Finland. Even before that I was an active weaver and knitter for more than eight years.
I love travelling, nature, and colourful fabrics. Everybody who knows me would say that I cannot be still and that my head is full of ideas all the time.
Clothing artisan specialised in weaving and sewing.
Hi! I’m Merja, a translator turned craftsperson.
I have worked as a translator and reviewer for nearly a decade. In addition to having a passion for languages, I have always loved handicrafts, so when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped at the chance to study as a clothing artisan.
In addition to making clothes, I was happily surprised to learn that I could make weaving a big part of my studies, and in the end it sort of took over, but I think that runs in the family - my grandmother was a passionate weaver.
The journey from making clothes for Barbie dolls when I was a child to this day has not been a straight-forward one but certainly an interesting one.
